Captain Lightfoot
Director: Douglas Sirk
Year Released: 1955
Rating: 2.0
Amateur thief Michael Martin (Rock Hudson) idolizes the legendary Captain Thunderbolt (Jeff Morrow) - who has been known to rob the wealthy and redistribute the funds to the impoverished - and when he gets a chance to meet with him, Thunderbolt is so impressed he makes him his assistant. It's a riff on the Robin Hood narrative except without a droplet of creativity, and then there's Hudson attempting an Irish accent that doesn't go over too well (he's much better at spanking Barbara Rush, his love interest, for her impetuousness). The last third gets kind of sloppy (directing action sequences was not Sirk's forte) although it's colorful and well-lit (which he was good at).
