Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga

Director: David Dobkin
Year Released: 2020
Rating: 2.0

Ever since he was a little boy, Lars of Iceland (Will Ferrell) dreamed of winning the annual Eurovision competition for best song - as an adult, with partner Sigrit (Rachel McAdams), he gets a chance to perform (because the other competitors get blown up in a boat) ... but botches up the live shows.  The novelty of it wears off kind of quickly - we get it, Nordic people can be a little peculiar (I'm also looking at you Finland ... with love) - and while it pokes fun at the Europeans, it also takes pot shots at America (we don't behave well when travelling abroad ... or anywhere, really), which is kind of refreshing.  It should have been trimmed down a bit - it's a 90 minute movie at heart - but I found myself laughing more at the end rather than the beginning, when the running gags involving the flaming ghost of Demi Lovato and magical elves actually pay off.
