The Last Days of American Crime

Director: Olivier Megaton
Year Released: 2020
Rating: 0.5

Just as the U.S. Government "figures out" a way to stop "unlawful behavior" - using a loud ringing sound that zaps the brains of everyone but the cops - long-time criminal Bricke (Edgar Ramírez) teams up with Kevin Cash (Michael Pitt), the son of a kingpin, and Kevin's girlfriend Shelby (Anna Brewster), a hacker, to rob a bank of billions and bolt to Canada.  Not only is the central idea of giving people a severe form of tinnitus dumb, so is the rest of the plot, which is completely nonsensical: Pitt clowns it up (he knows this isn't good and just goes all out) and Ramírez absorbs more damage than all of The Avengers combined.  Megaton wants to be Tarantino, but he's barely Michael Bay.  I will say this, though: it is a timely release, with protests/riots going on all across the States right now - I'm writing this on June 6th, 2020 - over the issue of unchecked abuse of power by those who are supposed to "serve and protect" us.  Ice Cube said it best on track two of N.W.A.'s classic album Straight Outta Compton....
