Manuela (Judy Garland) dreams of travel and adventure (to the Caribbean!) but she's getting married off to a man (Walter Slezak) who wants to keep her locked up at home - later, she meets an actor named Serafin (Gene Kelly) and he falls in love with her. Louis B. Mayer may have hated this very expensive and not very profitable musical (according to the IMDb he thought it was "high-brow" which couldn't be more wrong) though it does have its charming moments (the songs are by Cole Porter and the choreography is by Kelly). The real problem is with the clunky script (it uses "mesmerism" and identity swapping) and corniness: if Kelly wasn't so good at dancing he'd have made a great insurance salesman.
