"Americanized" (in the worst possible way) adaptation of Ruben Östlund's Force Majeure has married couple Pete (Will Ferrell) and Billie (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and their two kids on a ski trip in Austria - while ordering lunch, what appears to be an avalanche comes and Pete runs away from his family, but it turns out to be a false alarm and they spend the rest of the movie questioning his loyalty to them. While I had qualms with the original 2014 film, that at least tried for some nuance: this is purely in-your-face and sitcom-y, and the attempts to inject humor into it fail (it's basically Beat Up and Humiliate Will Ferrell for a little over an hour). If anyone had a family as insufferable as Pete does fleeing from them should be the only option ... and we won't talk about the abrupt (and frankly moronic) ending.
