The Hunt

Director: Craig Zobel
Year Released: 2020
Rating: 2.0

A group of "undesirables" find themselves gagged, thrown in a field and shot at as part of a twisted manhunt engineered by "liberal elite" Athena (Hilary Swank), but one of the targets, Crystal (Betty Gilpin), is actually a super soldier and fights back.  I get that Zobel, working off a script by Nick Cuse and Damon Lindelof, wanted to make some sort of "satire" of American's current political 'situation' - borrowing the plot from The Most Dangerous Game (and maybe Battle Royale) and adding in some current buzzwords both sides use to denounce those on the opposite end of the spectrum - but the characters are too cartoonish and it thinks it's a lot smarter than it is, which is a little embarrassing.  One saving grace, however, is Gilpin as the main killing machine: you never end up learning much about her, but she's riveting to watch (she's also great in GLOW, which I strongly recommend).  Is Emma Roberts supposed to be Tomi Lahren?
