Hoosiers

Director: David Anspaugh
Year Released: 1986
Rating: 2.0

If there exists a sports movie cliché, it's in here: a David vs. Goliath, struggle against the odds, win-it-at-the-buzzer basketball picture that is supposed to be uplifting but left me unquestionably depressed (the ending fails to answer the most important question: Where does everyone go? Or was that it?). Everyone has demons - coach Gene Hackman, his gifted protégé, Barbara Hershey, the bumblefuck school (and its inferiority complex) and Dennis Hopper (who else?) - but they're all conquered in totally predictable ways. Hackman's performance is all right, but Hopper steals every scene he's in.
