Sonic the Hedgehog
Director: Jeff Fowler
Year Released: 2020
Rating: 1.0
A sheriff (James Marsden) from a teeny tiny town has a chance meeting with a magical blue hedgehog named Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz), who is being chased after by evil scientist Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) - this is all loosely based on the incredibly popular video game series by Sega which has ... let's just say a "special" fanbase (for fun, search in Google Images "[your first name] the Hedgehog" ... thank me later). You have to give Paramount credit for releasing a trailer for an early version, hearing the audience's outcry and then "fixing" Sonic's appearance (his arms still aren't right, but it's better than it was) ... trouble is, the story is really flat and the movie is actually worse when chirpy Sonic is on-screen, taking attention away from scene-stealing Carrey, who brought a little of his moxie from The Mask to this throwaway picture. Might I suggest playing some of the games instead? My recommendations: Sonic & Knuckles (for the Genesis), Sonic Adventure (for the Dreamcast) and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (for the Nintendo Switch).
