Very Murray Christmas, A

Director: Sofia Coppola
Year Released: 2015
Rating: 3.0

One-hour Holiday variety special centered around the irreplaceable Bill Murray as he hangs out in in the Carlyle Hotel during a brutally cold Christmas Eve and sings Christmas songs, with the assistance of some pals, like George Clooney, Miley Cyrus, Jenny Lewis, the band Phoenix (lead singer Thomas Mars is married to Sofia), David Johansen, etc. ... plus there are guest appearances by other celeb friends, like Chris Rock and Michael Cera.  For fans of the actor - and coziness in general - this is a decent and quick viewing come That Time of the Year, as it's pleasantly off-beat and encourages booziness all around: at one point Bill swigs a little too much and passes out, triggering a Broadway-style drunken dream.  To those who say it's "too weird": have you seen Bing Crosby and David Bowie sing "The Little Drummer Boy?"  That was certainly ... different.
