A goody-goody college freshman named Tessa (Josephine Langford, sister of Katherine), raised by helicopter-mom Carol (Selma Blair) and dating high school senior Noah (Dylan Arnold), meets moody, tattooed Hardin (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) and starts a romantic relationship with him ... without telling Noah (cheater alert!). There aren't a lot of positive things to say about something that began as One Direction fan fiction (I take it "novelist" Anna Todd is - or was - fascinated by Harry Styles), "borrows" from Cruel Intentions (hence Blair's presence) and takes place at a relatively safe collegiate environment where there's no cocaine or date rape or brawls or throwing objects out of windows. All the borderline interesting characters are in the periphery: it's good to see Blair back on screen (in real life she's battling multiple sclerosis) and then there's whatever's going on with Jennifer Beals and Peter Gallagher's boozed-up chancellor. Can I request a re-do centering on those people instead?
