The Hustle

Director: Chris Addison
Year Released: 2019

Two female con-artists, pompous Josephine (Anne Hathaway) and crude Penny (Rebel Wilson) - who initially team up to take down scummy men (and there are so many of us! curse our existence!) - turn on each other (women never do that!) to see which one can swindle $500k from Mark Zuckerberg ... no, sorry, Thomas Westerburg (Alex Sharp), a 'dimwitted' app designer.  It's actually a remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (which was a remake of Bedtime Story) with Hathaway playing the Caine part and Wilson as Steve Martin (and Sharp as Glenne Headly), except not even close to being as smart or debonair or hilarious, with Rebel's "girth" and "promiscuity" used for terrible sight gags and one-liners that are dead on delivery - in the third act, Wilson has to pretend she's visually impaired and not a single second of it 'works.'  Anne Hathaway should be kept away from accents the same way toddlers should be kept from toxic household cleaning products.
