Men in Black: International

Director: F. Gary Gray
Year Released: 2019
Rating: 1.0

Ever since she was little and had a surprise visit from a cute little alien, Molly (Tessa Thompson) has always wanted to work for the Men in Black, so she sneaks into their base and gets taken in (on a probationary level), partners with wily Agent H (Chris Hemsworth) and tracks down the traitor in MiB's London office.  It's as if the screenwriters looked at just the trailer of a John le Carré adaptation and thought "yeah I guess we can do something like this" and that's about as much thought that was put into it - if you've seen the previous three movies, you're already aware of the gadgets and whatnot, and wee little warrior named Pawny (voiced by Kumail Nanjiani) is all they have in there for light chuckles.  You know it's no good when the Chairman of Sony Pictures Tom Rothman came out and played critic, saying "I think it probably was that there was not a strong enough idea in the story ... I really do believe you cannot eliminate risk in the movie business. If you try to eliminate risk, you will eliminate creativity, and if you eliminate creativity, you will eliminate success."  But this movie wasn't a bomb at the box office, so the ol' bean counters can't be too upset....
