Hellboy

Director: Neil Marshall
Year Released: 2019
Rating: 1.5

Back in ye olden days, King Arthur and Merlin locked away in separate boxes "Blood Witch" Nimue (Milla Jovovich), but centuries later a pesky boar has re-assembled her with the promise of getting revenge on the title red demon (David Harbour, who is great as Hopper in Stranger Things) - along the way, Hellboy learns about his own background as the offspring of a mortal woman and the Devil Himself.  There's an old saying about not succeeding at first and then trying over and over and over again to do it right - Del Toro already made two Hellboy movies (with Ron Perlman) and they were okay if nothing special, and the same could be said for this 'reboot' (sigh) that went for the R-rating but just fills the screen with gore and splatter and a total lack of humor.  The costumes and sets are nice - as is Harbour's character design - but that's about all there is in the positives department.
