Experimental film from musician Mr. Lotus - born Steven Ellison - that's really four 'interwoven' vignettes taking place in California after some disaster in which everyone has major dermatological issues - one lady has a talking boil, others have blisters or rashes or what looks like Herpes - and feces (animal, human, intergalactic, etc.) plays a big part in their lives. Having been a fan of FlyLo for years now I'm kind of surprised he'd go down the transgressive path with his feature film debut - an aborted baby gets smoked, a doctor produces a creature out of his rear end that can cure a man's fear of breasts, intergalactic pothead Yetis give Tim Heidecker a prolapsed anus, etc. - which could be classified as infantile, but so was Peter Jackson's Bad Taste and Meet the Feebles. Ellison's music is so glitchy and bouncy and just like those albums, this is structurally all over the place, leaping from one vile idea to the next, with the movie's purpose being very much up in the air. In an interview he said, "I just wanted to show people how ugly they are," which sounds to me like he's using the cinema to work out personal issues. Hey, did I ever mention the time I saw him at a grocery store in Los Angeles...?
