The Land of Steady Habits
Director: Nicole Holofcener
Year Released: 2018
Rating: 2.0
... And by "steady habits" it means making bad decisions. Anders (Ben Mendelsohn), who used to work in finance, retires and leaves his wife Helene (Edie Falco) ... but then isn't sure what to do with himself, aside from take drugs with his friend's son Charlie (Charlie Tahan), not get along with his own son Preston (Thomas Mann) and sleep around with random women. Holofcener knows her way around a rich suburb where ennui is prevalent, but that's the major problem with it: all of its characters (except for Falco) are loathsome, especially Mendelsohn's lout, who cannot stop doing all the wrong things and is consistently unlikable. It ends with the faintest of hope for him, but it's not like he deserves it or anything.
