The Clapper

Director: Dito Montiel
Year Released: 2017
Rating: 0.5

"Professional audience member" Eddie (Ed Helms) - only in L.A., right? - meets Judy (Amanda Seyfried), the 'woman of his dreams,' working at a gas station, but when a late night TV show (hosted by comedian Russell Peters) draws attention to his frequent infomercial appearances, it makes him a semi-celebrity. I'm not sure at what point in the writing process a normal person would say "this isn't a feature," but Montiel never listened to his inner voice - if he even has one - because aside from the 'cutesy' premise there's no humor or zeal or a plot worth following: it takes comedy vets like Helms, Peters and Tracy Morgan and drains them of their abilities, leaving them with what is a sappy (when not depressing) script (even the Letterman/Kimmel-type 'street interviews' skits sleep with the crickets). For anyone else wondering: no, this has nothing to do with gonorrhea.
