How It Ends
Director: David M. Rosenthal
Year Released: 2018
Rating: 1.0
After 'something bad' happens in Los Angeles (North Korea? China? Russia? who cares!) and power goes out and the weather gets funky, Will (Theo James) loses contact with his pregnant girlfriend Sam (Kat Graham) and drives, along with Sam's father (Forest Whitaker) and a Native American mechanic (Grace Dove) all the way to Seattle from Chicago, having to deal with lunatics and fuel problems on the road there. It might be difficult to come up with a less generic and flavorless 'survival' picture than this - James is your traditional 'strong' lead, Whitaker is there to provide bickering and the mechanic scoots out mid-picture ... and then there's the "plot" which gives you nothing and expects you to have vested interest in the matters at hand. At least the effects are passable - that hole in the sky looks all kinds of awful and Seattle in ruins is much worse (although I wonder if Starbucks stayed open?).
