After their mother dies unexpectedly, siblings Ed (RyƓsuke Yamada) and Al (Atom Mizuishi), try to use alchemy to bring her back, but it's actually forbidden to try to revive a human being, so a mysterious deity named Truth punishes them by placing Al's soul in a suit of armor and removing one of Ed's arms and legs (they get replaced with cybernetic replacements) - together, the brothers go in search of an all-powerful Philosopher's Stone to make Al human again. One of the (many) complaints I had against the live-action Death Note was that they were setting out to cram together too many episodes into one feature-length movie, and the same applies to this ... to which I'd like to add the following: it's tacky, the "acting" is atrocious, it isn't fun (the middle sags something fierce) and the "digital effects" look like they were made by a YouTuber with a jacked-up computer and a ton of free time. The notably jarring sub-plot with the chimera-obsessed scientist and his daughter (... and his wife ... and his dog ...) remains from the original, just so you can feel depressed on top of already being bored.
