Burly Bradley (Vince Vaughn), who gets busted in a drug heist - and turns on his two partners to keep them from killing police officers - is sent to jail, leaving his pregnant wife Lauren (Jennifer Carpenter) alone ... while inside, he is informed (by Udo Kier!) he must figure out a way to be sent to a maximum security prison (run by Don Johnson!) to kill a man in the title prison section, or else his unborn child will have its limbs removed (by a Korean abortionist!). Maximum violence and brutality are full on display in this polished exploitation movie: it may be crude and bleak, but it is fun if you like your action movies claustrophobic and ruthless. The real revelation is Vaughn - normally known for being a comedic actor (Vegas, baby!), he's a wonder in the lead, appearing stoic and fully capable of scraping the skin off a man's face (or snapping arms in half). I'm not sure anyone's going to get around to filming Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian, but Vince would make a terrific Judge Holden.
