Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie
Director: David Soren
Year Released: 2017
Rating: 2.5
Kid hooligans George (voiced by Kevin Hart) and Harold (Thomas Middleditch) rebel against their dictatorial principal Mr. Krupp (Ed Helms) by hypnotizing him with a cheap toy ring from China and convincing him he's a superhero named Captain Underpants - this comes in handy when their school's new science teacher/super villain, Prof. Poopypants (Nick Kroll), intends to rid the world of laughter (with a brain-zapping ray). Dav Pilkey's books are designed for (mostly) boys between the ages of 6-8 years of age and that's the same audience that will likely find this entertaining: it's a goofy bromance with scatological humor and completely innocent - even an adult male who is naked except for tighty-whities and a cheap "cape" isn't sexual, he's just a buffoon being punished for not allowing his students to "have fun." Any book/film that encourages the little ones to be creative and to draw comics gets my approval - just don't do it when I'm lecturing and then later on ask me to repeat myself ... because I will turn into Prof. P. and blow a gasket.
