Hunter/trapper Cory Lambert (Jeremy Renner) finds the frozen body of a teenage girl on an Indian reservation in Wyoming and, along with FBI Special Agent Jane Banner (Elizabeth Olsen), tries to figure out who assaulted her ... and why she ran several miles in treacherous conditions barefoot. The premise is distinctive - looking into sexual crimes committed in Native-American communities - but this is little more than frosty landscapes and a chance for Renner to show off his acting chops: there isn't a whole lot of detective work to be done ... and when Banner and some local authorities encounter suspicious security guards, it quickly turns into a massacre. Lambert's (very sad) back story is given more attention than the community it claims it's 'examining' ... and in keeping with current concerns over 'rape culture,' has several white males behaving like drunken savages (loneliness is never an excuse). Sheridan has noble intentions, but the finished product is shallow.
