The Lives of a Bengal Lancer
Director: Henry Hathaway
Year Released: 1935
Rating: 2.0
Here's something: a movie that ends just as it's getting pretty good. Someone could have worked on the uneven plotting - the first hour introduces the characters, mentions (repeatedly) just how staunch and dictatorial the head of the lancers is (they call him a 'ramrod'), everyone engages in tiresome banter, only for the actual "story" to be introduced halfway through. Cooper is more wooden than usual - he delivers his lines like he's not sure what they mean (to suggest his character is all brawn and minimally intelligent?) - and the other characters are almost nonentities. Rumor has it this was one of Hitler's favorite movies.
