Alice Through the Looking Glass
Director: James Bobin
Year Released: 2016
Rating: 0.5
Sea captain Alice (Mia Wasikowska), stuck in an ugly dispute with her ex-fiancé over her beloved sailing vessel, 'escapes' through the title apparatus and returns to Wonderland, where she finds old friend The Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) is despondent because his parents are missing. Not only is this a bastardization of Lewis Carroll's (considerably more fun) book, the characters are reduced of their depth and magic as they race through (yet again) more CGI-heavy sets ... which is a shame, because the costumes, Depp's make-up and the backgrounds had more thought put into them than the story itself. Sacha Baron Cohen, as "Time," appears to be enjoying his opportunity to make easy royalties and even gets to try out his "German accent," which sounds suspiciously like a slight Werner Herzog impersonation.
