Inferno

Director: Ron Howard
Year Released: 2016
Rating: 1.5

Novelist Dan Brown's most popular creation, Professor Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks), gets mixed up in another world-threatening conspiracy, this time appearing in a hospital in Florence with head trauma and trying to find out about a plague that lunatic billionaire Zobrist (Ben Foster) wants to unleash on society (doctor Felicity Jones plays sidekick for a little bit). When Howard isn't trying to emulate Langdon's confusion/wooziness with wobbly camerawork the movie is on a breakneck pace from one location to another, less driven by intelligent plotting and more by throwing out references to Dante and asking the audience to turn off their thinking and just follow along (and ignore that a good deal of it doesn't make a lot of sense). Foster's Zobrist is a one-dimensional figure with a God complex; Jones' physician apparently forgot all about the Hippocratic Oath. Regardless, it seems like an arduous journey to reclaim a Mickey Mouse watch (identity restored?).
