Hunt for the Wilderpeople
Director: Taika Waititi
Year Released: 2016
Rating: 1.0
Reckless (and overweight) orphan Ricky (Julian Dennison) goes to live with Bella (Rima Te Wiata) and her husband Hec (Sam Neill), but once Bella passes away Child Services ("No child left behind!") wants to take Ricky back ... so he runs off into the bush (with Hec following along to ensure he's safe), causing a nationwide man (and boy) hunt. As an Unlikely Buddy 'comedy,' it's light on substance (boy-embraces-newfound-mother-and-father-figures) and lacks in credibility - tanks and a task force? really? - with only Neill's put-on surliness as its sole connection to the real world with actual people. Since Lil Ricky likes haikus so much, I decided to write my own: "Nick Jr." type gags / from New Zealand's Jared Hess / Burger Rings are real!?
