Jason Bourne

Director: Paul Greengrass
Year Released: 2016
Rating: 2.0

Damon's return as Ludlum's character Jason Bourne has him running (and running ... and running) away from a rogue CIA director (Tommy Lee Jones) and a cyber security expert (Alicia Vikander) and following a trail of clues in order to get his memories back (he lost those a while ago). Substance-wise it's lacking - lots of gadgets and tracking devices are used while going from major city to city - with a few mentions of Snowden and "privacy is freedom" to try to be relevant to current times (it pokes at our Current Paranoia without actually investigating the problem ... does the government really care about your pictures of dogs and food and expertly poured cappuccinos on Instagram?). The majority of it is One Long Chase, leading to a security expo in Vegas and lots of cars smashing into each other, a la Friedkin: Greengrass never saw a handheld camera he didn't love. Oh, and rest in peace Riviera Casino: you will be missed.
