Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates
Director: Jake Szymanski
Year Released: 2016
Rating: 1.0
Party-hard brothers (and tequila makers) Mike (Adam Devine) and Dave Stangle (Zac Efron), who have a long history of ruining family functions with their shenanigans, are forced by their parents to find 'proper' dates for their sister's upcoming wedding ... so they do the normal thing and place an ad on Craigslist (which is the only factual part of the movie), which draws the attention of Alice (Anna Kendrick) and Tatiana (Aubrey Plaza), a.k.a. Hot Mess #1 and Hot Mess #2. It's yet another one-note comedy with some of vulgar moments - Plaza fingering cousin Terry (Alice Wetterlund) in a sauna, sis Jeanie (Sugar Lyn Beard) having her tush 'massaged' by an Indian masseuse, Alice and Jeanie taking ecstasy and stripping down (that bush!) - and not-so-entertaining physical 'humor' (run over the bride-to-be with an ATV!). I kept waiting for some moment of enlightenment or social commentary, but there's precious little to glean: even Plaza's Strong Independent Woman Who Don't Need a Man caves and has a quickie with Mike in a barn. The original ad (which conveniently predicted the story would be made into a movie) is still available to read ... and the Stangle brothers did get their wish: Ashton Kutcher was not considered for a main role (or even a supporting one).
