Jane Got a Gun
Director: Gavin O'Connor
Year Released: 2016
Rating: 1.5
After 'fur trader' Bill Hammond (Noah Emmerich) returns home to his wife Jane (Natalie Portman) riddled with bullets and barely alive, she goes after the guys who did it - the Bishop Boys (led by Ewan McGregor) - with the assistance of ex-lover/former soldier Dan (Joel Edgerton). I always look forward to new Westerns coming out - it's a stereotypically classic American genre - except I prefer it when they have a pulse and strong rhythm to them (the True Grit remake, for one) and, I don't know, a unique angle: this is your standard Old Grudges and Revenge tale ... and it has no spunk to it. O'Connor tries so hard to make it a mood piece even a scene where baddies are blown up and a front yard is on fire comes across as being a ho-hum moment ... and it ends exactly how one figures it would.
