Cast a Dark Shadow
Director: Lewis Gilbert
Year Released: 1955
Rating: 1.5
Dirk Bogarde, playing yet another sexually sleazy character - he marries old women for their fortunes - kills off his first wife (making it look like an accident) before trying to pull the same trick again with an old woman he picks up at a resort. Didn't buy the plotting for a second - the events that unfold don't seem logical - and wasn't too thrilled with Bogarde's performance - he goes from cocky swagger to nervous double talking (he's as guilty 'as the day is long') to manic hysteria (in the final twenty minutes). How he deduces the one character's "secret identity" suggests clairvoyance.
