The Wedding Ringer
Director: Jeremy Garelick
Year Released: 2015
Rating: 1.0
Friendless, awkward Doug (Josh Gad), soon to marry snooty, picky fiancé Gretchen (Kaley Cuoco), needs to find a Best Man for his wedding ... so he hires title charlatan Jimmy (Kevin Hart) to play the part and assemble a group of made up "pals" (each with their own back story) for the ceremony. Goes for the cheap and easy gags - Gad's girth, a dog chewing on a penis, Grammy on fire, mud football with Broadway Joe and several old-timers - in what amounts to an obnoxious Dude Fest (women are depicted as either objects or catty jerks) that concludes with the 'message' that friendship ("bros before hoes") trumps a loveless marriage of convenience. While I'd like to say it's borderline worthless, Hart tries his best for earnestness amidst the testosterone and inane plotting (how was no one arrested?).
