Alex (Adam Scott) and Emily (Taylor Schilling), new to Los Angeles, meet locals Kurt (Jason Schwartzman) and Charlotte (Judith Godrèche) and they agree to have a 'play date' for their sons (and dinner for themselves) - the evening begins relatively normally ... only to get progressively kinkier: it turns out Charlotte and Kurt make breast-milking fetish videos, Kurt photographs and paints anuses, Charlotte jerks off strangers at a Thai massage parlor and skinny dipping is a common thing (so much for marriage in the 21st century!). I guess it's trying to be 'shocking' but it just comes across as juvenile, taking something as serious as a troubled marital relationship and just making it a unfunny joke (Californian hedonism!) - it goes exactly where I figured it would (4-way!) and then afterwards ... well, I hope therapy does help (though I doubt it). I have trouble taking either Scott or Schwartzman seriously, so it doesn't come across as purposely awkward as it probably wanted to be: both those guys have a permanent grin pasted on their faces (to go along with the fake genitalia pasted ... elsewhere).
