The Hateful Eight

Director: Quentin Tarantino
Year Released: 2015
Rating: 3.0

Bounty hunter John Ruth (Kurt Russell) is on his way to Red Rock with rogue Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Leigh) - hoping to collect the $10k reward for her head - only to run into a fellow bounty hunter, Major Warren (Samuel L. Jackson) and a mayor named Mannix (Walton Goggins) along the way; at night, during a bad blizzard, they stay at a haberdashery with several suspicious individuals. For Tarantino's "eighth" film, he's decided to basically remix Reservoir Dogs and set it in the Old West: he's gotten even better at dialogue and scene set-ups since then, and the direction is exemplary, however his 'attempt' to make this about 'race' relations in America are weak and mainly consist of cheap provocations (racial slurs are used liberally by non-black characters solely to jab the audience). Like Reservoir Dogs, it's a fatalistic movie where no one walks away unscathed ... but it's also elevated by a stand-out cast (particularly Jackson, Goggins and Leigh).
