Mr. X, a Vision of Leos Carax

Director: Tessa Louise-Salomé
Year Released: 2014
Rating: 1.5

Very quick synopsis of the career of eccentric Carax, who has only made (as of right now) five films and a handful of shorts and been known to take several years to produce new features (he's done some acting, too, for the likes of Harmony Korine and Godard). The talking heads do make some nice points about his work (one of Carax's big obsessions is classic cinema) but the unquestioning praise by some of the interviewees (Richard Brody, calm thyself) is a bit much: sure, Holy Motors and The Lovers on the Bridge are exemplary movies but the rest of his output has been, to say the least, quite inconsistent. Louise-Salomé does an adequate job mimicking her subject's style, but heaping accolades on a career that is still a work-in-progress is presumptuous.
