Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa
Director: Declan Lowney
Year Released: 2013
Rating: 1.5
Feature-length effort centered around a character English comedian/actor Steve Coogan has been playing for well over a decade, the egocentric and foolish radio DJ Alan Partridge, as he has to play go-between/negotiator when fellow DJ Pat (Colm Meaney) gets fired (ironically, per Partridge's suggestion) and holds the radio station hostage. The plot is dim-witted and absurd, and it's all strung together to allow for Coogan to act the witty, sarcastic fool, which he is all too accomplished at doing. 'Deeper' issues get brought up - about corporate takeovers and trying to stay fresh and new despite getting older - but the sight gags (like Coogan bare-bottomed and getting photographed by the paparazzi, Coogan hiding in a septic tank) get considerably more attention.
