A much older man, Joe (Wendell Pierce), takes 'confused' teen June (Emory Cohen) on a date to the movies (and a hotel room) - while Joe is on his excursion, his daughter Abigayle (Aja Naomi King) is being romanced by a smooth talker her own age. Not only is this underdeveloped as a narrative - leaving the characters at the end with even more questions than they started with and little chance of resolution - but the dialogue (and some of the acting) leaves much to be desired (Joe's comparing a straight male losing his virginity to a gay man's first AIDS test is, to me at least, utterly absurd). A scene towards the end between Cohen and a schoolmate (Liam Benzvi) ends before it even gets started and that lit sparkler doesn't necessarily signify all is well.
