Carl Th. Dreyer: My Métier
Director: Torben Skjødt Jensen
Year Released: 1995
Rating: 2.0
Substandard view of the work of Dreyer - Jensen is more interested in his special effects and trying to 'hypnotize' you than to adequately go into the complexity of the films (the essays that accompany the Criterion releases are more in-depth). The statements by the actors and crew about Dreyer do little to reveal anything deep or unknown about him - he is just as enigmatic now as he ever was. Perhaps Dreyer deserves some credit for this himself: he has said that he is not interesting - but his films are - and by cautiously shrouding his own existence, he's allowed the art to speak for itself.
