Del Toro, after a weekend bender watching Japanese-themed TV shows and movies ranging from Ultraman to Giant Robo to Godzilla, makes this summer 'blockbuster,' a version of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers with a 200-million-dollar budget ... and the same quality of acting and dialogue. In short: giant mutated dinosaurs are rising out of the ocean and eating our cities so the inhabitants of Earth build battle mechas to fight them and encourage guys like Charlie Day to mind-meld with their brains and read their thoughts. Watching the actors in futuristic armor doing pantomime in order to "operate" their humongous metal toys is good for a giggle.
