Somebody Up There Likes Me
Director: Bob Byington
Year Released: 2012
Rating: 2.0
Ineffectual waiter Max (Keith Poulson) marries a quirky waitress Lyla (Jess Weixler) and time passes, they have a son, more time passes, Max has an affair with the nanny, his good friend Sal (Nick Offerman) has an affair with his Max's wife, more time passes, the two friends open up a food stand together and so on. Typically glib, too-indie-for-you affair has a decent number of clever moments and one-liners but never really goes anywhere (which may be the point) - normally one would expect histrionics and high drama but none of the characters cares much about ... well, anything and real-life problems such as infidelity and death are treated with a gigantic shrug. If they could care less, why should anyone else? "So it goes."
