I'm So Excited!
Director: Pedro Almodóvar

A plane takes off from Spain to go to Mexico City, except the landing gear is malfunctioning so the likelihood of a safe landing is unlikely - fearing the worst, the crew drugs the passengers in coach, drink heavily and make frantic phone calls to lovers and family back home ... oh, and they also engage in soap-operaish gossip and a little bit of sex. Almodóvar began his career making campy romps like this before moving onto more serious subject matter as he 'matured' - now he's taking an ill-advised step back into 'comical' hysteria, rending this some kind of Airplane!-meets-The High and the Mighty, only far over-the-top with its adults behaving like children and decidedly unfunny gay-themed humor (the stewards break into their Pointer Sisters routine for the sole musical-themed part of the fiasco). If occasionally dipping into this kind of frivolous material regenerates him before he goes back to making artistically prominent movies like The Skin I Live In, Broken Embraces and All About My Mother, so be it Pedro. At this point I suppose he earned that right....
