Fury

Director: Fritz Lang

Had to check the credits twice to see if Stanley Kramer had anything to do with this - has the preachy tone of Kramer's Inherit the Wind and his trademark overwrought performances (Capraesque Spencer Tracy "morphs" into Johnny Tough Guy, engulfed in shadow and arm-in-arm with the "dark side" of the law; Sylvia Sidney develops catatonia and gets around to fainting at opportune times). Can't say I enjoyed it a whole lot - when a picture goes out of its way to point out how ignorant mass-mentality can be or how misfortune and trauma can lead a "good person" down the wrong path, I'm not watching a movie but a sociological theory performed by qualified actors.
