Mama
Director: Andrés Muschietti
Year Released: 2013
Rating: 1.0
After being stranded in a cabin for five years following the death of their parents, two young girls are rescued by their uncle (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and his punk rock girlfriend (Jessica Chastain), only to come to the realization that while in said cabin the girls were 'cared for' by the spectre of a dead woman. Chiefly a Girls-Only affair once Coster-Waldau gets 'knocked out' of the movie, the scare moments in this one are barely effective (a few half-hearted Boo Moments) and the plot is reminiscent of other, similar supernatural stories (particularly last year's equally disappointing The Woman in Black) with an ever-so-slight twist at the end. As with those other, similar supernatural stories of late, the Muschiettis neglect to make their central characters semi-interesting.
