A con (Dennis O'Keefe) busts out of jail with the help of a hopelessly in-love girlfriend (Claire Trevor) and takes a caring-but-concerned social worker (Marsha Hunt) along with them in order to flee the country, and of course deal with the gangster (Raymond Burr) who owes him money. There's precious little to take away from this quick-and-easy noir - so many others at the time did this type of movie better and with considerably more nuance - which features a scummy anti-hero who treats his women like garbage and a stitched-together plot line. Hunt's performance is a low point, but Trevor's adoration for the seedy creep is plausible. This is notable for being one of the very rare movies I encounter in which I hope everyone gets shot (unfortunately, not everyone does).
