We Don't Care About Music Anyway
Director: Cédric Dupire and Gaspard Kuentz
Year Released: 2009
Rating: 0.5
Very weak 'documentary' about the experimental music scene in Japan not only fails to properly introduce the performers (who most people are probably unaware of) but only gives a few scenes of the artists themselves talking about their craft. I was already aware of the work of Yoshihide Otomo (especially his New Jazz Orchestra) but the others I never heard of and (still) know little about, even after sitting through this disjointed and vague mess. Some of the more 'well-known' (relatively speaking) and intriguing noise musicians out of Japan, like Merzbow (Masami Akita), Masonna (Yamazaki Maso) and the band Boredoms aren't even mentioned or included in this, suggesting the filmmakers didn't do a whole lot of homework on the subject.
