The Raven

Director: James McTeigue
Year Released: 2012
Rating: 0.5

Quoth this movie: I'm such a chore. Inept attempt by McTeigue to 'modernize' the life of Edgar Allan Poe with a fictitious story about how Poe (John Cusack) has to save his love (Alice Eve) from a killer whose methods mimic those in Poe's tales. Slogs along with its too-dark cinematography (oooh, atmosphere!) and Cusack trying to play Poe as a snarky wit (which, of late, has been Robert Downey, Jr.'s M.O.); he saves the girl but dies on that Baltimore park bench in the exchange. Purists will find this to be utter heresy - just as with Anonymous, the alternative take on Shakespeare.
