The Navigator
Director: Donald Crisp and Buster Keaton
Year Released: 1924
Rating: 3.0
Rich (and ditzy) Keaton ends up on an abandoned vessel with love interest Kathryn McGuire that keeps drifting around the sea; over time, they learn how to make the most of their situation ... that is, until they hit land. Doesn't really come into its own until the two lovers run into a bunch of aboriginals and that's when the zaniness really ensues; until then it's kind of a slog of routine bits such as running around the stairs trying to find each other and making a mess out of the food supply. This could have used even more absurdist vaudeville routines - Keaton in a diving suit fencing with a swordfish is a great bit.
