The Ghost and Mrs. Muir
Director: Joseph L. Mankiewicz
Year Released: 1947
Rating: 2.0
A widow (Gene Tierney) moves into a new home that just so happens to be haunted by a deceased sea captain (Rex Harrison) who dictates his life story to her - elsewhere, she is seduced by a real-life writer (George Sanders), who - it turns out - is a smooth-talking scumbag with a wife. Can be safely filed under that section of psychologically unhealthy movies where a woman falls hopelessly in love with someone who no longer exists in earthly form - to add to the corniness of it, Harrison really hams it up as the sailor, all but saying "Arrrrr matey!" at several points. Mankiewicz may have directed it, but at least he can't be blamed for writing it.
