Safe House
Director: Daniel Espinosa
Year Released: 2012
Rating: 2.0
A rogue former CIA agent (Denzel Washington, sleepwalking) turns himself in at a U.S. consulate in Cape Town, South Africa, where a callow agent (Ryan Reynolds) is in charge of watching over him, seeing him escape, chasing after him, seeing him escape, and so on. With logic and common sense not being its strong suit (not to mention the idea of Reynolds ever being able to capture someone as dastardly as Washington), it turns to shaky, poorly-directed action scenes and bloodshed - it also takes a few weak slaps at the Agency, MI6 and the BND for being 'corrupt' (though it's vague on how and why, but details of that kind are irrelevant). The generally incredible Vera Farmiga is in there for a bit role before she gets shot in a car. And then in the face.
