Vengeance

Director: Johnny To
Year Released: 2009
Rating: 1.5

Following the death of his grandchildren, his son-in-law and an attempted execution of his daughter (Sylvie Testud), a former assassin-turned-French chef (rock 'n roller Johnny Hallyday) hires a crew of hit men (including Anthony Wong) to find out who was responsible and seek ... revenge! Hyper-stylized but textually vacant, it's probably best that, like Hallyday's character, you have a bit of memory loss while watching this so you don't have to think about the piss-poor transitions or logic; going to a To film and expecting depth and intricate screenwriting is like going to a brothel to drink coffee. Johnny T. still knows how to direct a shootout, however (which may be the only thing he's really good at), and the way blood sprays out of the bodies like a mist is a neat effect (if you're a teenage male).
