Bambi

Director: David Hand
Year Released: 1942
Rating: 3.0

Famous ode-to-nature by the Disney people, beginning with the birth of the famous deer Bambi, his new experiences in the world, his loss of innocence and his discovery of his reproductive capabilities (his special purpose!). The liberal/peacenik politics reveal Man to be the Ultimate Evil - and threat to nature - which may be true (even though nature itself is inherently violent, per Herzog), but I must add that in my own native state of Pennsylvania, there are simply too many deer prancing around and running in front of cars to be good (in other words, I've always been in favor of extending the hunting season; sorry Bambi's mom). Still, the characters and settings are distinctive and pretty; Thumper and Flower are in Bambi's very memorable Rat Pack, and they all conveniently learn about humping and desire at the same time....
