Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical
Director: Andy Fickman
Year Released: 2005
Rating: 1.0
Musical remake of the notoriously silly 'scare' picture Reefer Madness shows again, with irony, how the herb leads to promiscuity, cannibalism, murder and 'wholesome' Kristen Bell in a dominatrix outfit. One thing the filmmakers of this remake don't seem to realize, however, is that you simply can't 'recreate' 'camp' - the original black and white movie was trying to be deadly serious (which made it somewhat amusing), while this just gives a wink to its (knowing) audience, who should be aware that weed only leads to hunger, driving slowly and finding idiotic things incredibly hilarious. Surprisingly, the songs are kind of catchy (I like the one about Shakespeare), and I must say that Alan Cumming's FDR impression is spot-on, old bean.
